20,000 Day Party

The year 2020 has been an unpredictable and challenging year, but people are still finding joy in celebration. In January of this year, Jonathan realised that his 20,000 day on earth fell on the 20th of April in the year 2020…and that called for a party and we where on board! Unfortunately, the entire world was rocked by the global pandemic Coronavirus and Jonathan’s celebration was cancelled for the foreseeable future. Fast forward to October, and New Zealand is back in event and celebration mode.

On October 20, 2020— exactly six months after his original party— we helped Jonathan celebrate 20,200(ish) days on earth surrounded by close friends and family in his stunning Arrowtown backyard.

Our friends at Gather & Gold created a magical atmosphere with their giant Nordic tipis. The roaring fire was set up in the middle of five tables, the bar and the band and created a warm ambiance as people celebrated Jonathan long into the night.

I believe it is not about over complicating food, it is about the fresh produce and thoughtfully paired flavours. Real food, real good. Edible table runners are one of our favourite styles of serving food at a dinner party. We love the imperfect, perfect look. When creating an elegant table scape, it is important to incorporate the food onto the table with height and variations. My favourite thing to do is to use fresh foliage and floral around to add pops of colour. I love using edible flowers for visual and flavour. I always say ‘ Don’t remove the garnish!’ Some of the most delicious flavours of your meal come from the herb and floral garnish on top!

The Platter Share used local vendors for all of the little details needed to create a stunning event. When event planning and styling its great to have so many industry professionals at our finger tips. Major & Minor provided gorgeous crystal glassware. We used Alta Weddings gold-rimmed plates and gold silverware & Whistling Reindeer ‘Rosehill’ linen napkins and table runners. The Queenstown based company, Borrowed Botanicals, transformed the space by adding pops of lush greenery around the tipi. Working with local vendors we created a magical event on a beautiful Spring evening.

2020 has been an unpredictable year, and it was our goal to make sure Jonathan had a spectacular celebration surrounded by his friends and family. We provided an abundant three course meal and joy was definitely in the air on Jonathan’s 20,200th day on earth!
